Hartsville, S.C. – Sonoco (NYSE: SON), one of the largest diversified global packaging and services companies, announced recipients of its Sonoco Supplier Sustainability Award program during a dinner at the 10th Annual Sonoco/JBE/MYCA Supplier Diversity Business Conference on Tuesday, May 20. Recipients included American Packaging Company, AT&T, Buckman International, Chep, Staples and xpedx.
The supplier sustainability awards program, now in its second year, recognizes the Company’s suppliers who demonstrate clear differentiation from their competitors with measurable, strategic and transparent social, diversity and environmental responsibility efforts. More than 100 of Sonoco’s top suppliers were contacted with a call for entries in January 2014 and over 30 candidates’ entries were reviewed in April.
“This year’s award recipients should be proud; they were chosen from a pool of very competitive entries,” said Marc Ensign, director, Strategic Sourcing, Sonoco. “We were extremely impressed with our suppliers’ initiatives in the areas of sustainability, environmental responsibility and diversity.”
Award recipients showed definitive leadership in various categories such as having an environmental policy, specific goals and progress in water, energy, emission and waste disposal reduction; social responsibility reports; and codes of conduct for their suppliers.
